Strengthening Safety and Sustainability: MG Hygiene’s EHS Certification Success

ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018  Certification

Background

MG Hygiene & Cleaning Supplies Ltd., based in Bluebell, Dublin 12, is a well-established supplier of hygiene, catering and cleaning products to the hospitality, catering and cleaning sectors. Their service proposition emphasises quality, reliability and responsive customer support.

As part of their continuous improvement and industry compliance strategy, MG Hygiene sought to achieve Stage 2 EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) certification. Recognising the value of independent expert guidance, they engaged CG Business Consulting (CGBC) to assist with designing, implementing and preparing for their certification assessment.

Objectives

The key objectives were:

  • To review and refine MG Hygiene’s existing EHS management system to ensure full readiness for Stage 2 certification.
  • To embed sustainable EHS best-practice across operations (warehouse, delivery, customer service) rather than simply meeting the certification standard on paper.
  • To ensure a smooth transition to certified status, thereby enhancing internal assurance, customer confidence and competitive positioning.

To deliver the above efficiently and with minimal disruption to day-to-day business operations, reflecting MG Hygiene’s commitment to service reliability.

Our Approach

CG Business Consulting adopted a structured and collaborative approach:

  1. Initial Gap‐Analysis & Planning
    • A detailed review of MG Hygiene’s current EHS processes, documentation and operational practices.
    • Identification of gaps against the certification criteria and formulation of a prioritised roadmap.
    • Agreement of roles, timelines and deliverables with MG Hygiene’s management team.
  2. System Design & Implementation Support
    • CGBC provided template documents, risk and hazard registers, training materials and audit checklists tailored to the hygiene-supply sector.
    • Workshops and one-to-one sessions were held with MG Hygiene’s staff to build awareness, secure buy-in and train internal champions.
    • CGBC assisted in embedding operational controls (e.g., ergonomics for warehouse staff, vehicle safety for delivery drivers, chemical handling protocols) and aligning them with the documentation.
  3. Pre-Assessment & Internal Auditing
    • A full mock audit (internal) was conducted by CGBC to validate readiness for Stage 2. Non‐conformities were identified, classified and matched to corrective action plans.
    • MG Hygiene’s internal audit team were coached on how to monitor, report and close non‐conformities, to ensure the system was audit ready.
  4. Stage 2 Certification Support
    • On the day of the external Stage 2 certification audit, CGBC provided facilitation of the process, supporting the audit logistics and helping MG Hygiene to demonstrate the required evidence of implementation.
    • Post‐audit, CGBC assisted in interpreting the auditor’s feedback and preparing a continuous improvement plan for beyond certification.

Results and Impact

  1. MG Hygiene successfully passed their Stage 2 EHS certification with no major non-conformities, demonstrating a robust EHS management system now fully embedded within their operations.
  2. The certification has helped to reinforce the company’s market credibility and aligns with their commitment to reliable, professional service.
  3. Internally, staff across functions gained increased awareness of EHS risks, standardised processes and reporting procedures — improving safety, consistency and accountability.
  4. The established continual improvement plan ensures the EHS system will remain dynamic, aligned with regulatory developments and evolving operational needs.

Client Experience

“Working with CG Business Consulting was a smart decision for our business. Their team brought clarity and structure to what could have been a very heavy administrative burden. With their guidance we not only achieved Stage 2 certification but have built a system that our people actually use and understand. The process was seamless, the support real, and we now feel confident we’re operating to best-practice standards. I’d have no hesitation recommending CGBC to any business looking to raise their EHS game.”
Michael Murphy, Director, MG Hygiene & Cleaning Supplies Ltd.

Why this partnership worked?

  • Sector-relevant insight: CGBC’s experience across ISO standards, sustainability and operational risk meant they understood the practicalities of supply-chain, warehousing and chemical handling environments.
  • Tailored delivery: Rather than a ‘one-size-fits-all’ programme, the workplan was customised to MG Hygiene’s specific business model and operational rhythms.
  • Engaged collaboration: MG Hygiene’s leadership and staff were active participants — the emphasis was on embedding change, not just achieving a certification tick-box.
  • Efficient and effective: The structured roadmap, clear milestones and mock audit ensured that certification readiness was achieved smoothly, with minimal disruption to business as usual.

Looking Ahead

  • With the Stage 2 certification now secured, MG Hygiene and CGBC are turning their attention to the next horizon of continuous improvement:

    • Further strengthening EHS metrics and performance data to influence decision-making and supplier/customer discussions.
    • Exploring integration of EHS with other management systems (e.g., quality, sustainability), creating an integrated management system approach.
    • Monitoring regulatory developments and updating the system to remain ahead of compliance pressures and market expectations.

This recognition comes in addition to the company’s recent success in securing ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certification, delivered in partnership with CG Business Consulting.
