Why is ISO 50001 important?

ISO 50001 is part of the holistic Integrated Management System.

It is estimated that the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard could have a positive impact on some 60% of the world’s energy use by providing public and private sector organisations with management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance. Effective energy management should be a priority focus because of the significant potential to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Every organisation needs to reduce its CO2 footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve carbon zero by 2050.

ISO 50001 contributes and supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The SDGs are a global call to action to protect the planet, eradicate poverty and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and economic prosperity.

Environmental performance is growing in importance, and the challenges it poses to businesses are getting more complex and frequent.

Working with CGBC allowed us to navigate these challenges and ensure that we built a robust Integrated Management System combining ISO 50001 and ISO 140001. The IMS helps us to conform to best practices and allows us the best chance of reaching the ambitious climate targets that we have set ourselves.

This training ensured people from across the company got involved and knew what was required from them and their teams from the beginning.
