Helen Budowsky

Junior Energy & Environmental Consultant

Where did you grow up and what and where did you study in college?

I’m 24. I’m from Hollywood, FL, a city about 30 minutes north of Miami. I studied Biorenewable Systems and Energy Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University!

What is your role at CG Business Consulting?

I am a Junior Energy and Environmental Consultant. I assist with the establishment and maintenance of energy management systems, have shadowed works on environmental management systems. I also work on carbon footprints and sustainability strategy.

What got you interested in Sustainability?

My mom was always into sustainability and the environment. When I was 7 years old, my mom came into my class and helped us students write to the governor of Alaska (Sarah Palin) and ask her to stop a new oil drilling project to protect the polar bears. From that day, I decided my mission was to save the polar bears.

Why did you choose to work for CG Business Consulting?

I had just moved to Ireland and was looking for jobs in sustainability or energy. I had applied to a different job and was contacted by the recruiter. She said that the job I had applied for was not the right fit, but I should check out this other company. I was so excited to finally hear from someone, that when she started talking about CGBC, the only words that registered were “women” and “empowerment.” That was enough for me to be interested! Then, looking on their website, I was super into the sustainability offerings, energy, and carbon foot printing. I was so excited at the prospect of getting a job in sustainability AND being able to learn from successful women in that field.

What did you find most challenging about entering the working world?

My biggest challenge entering the working world has been time management. In school, my schedule was based around schoolwork deadlines. I didn’t have a normal schedule, and I would often be in the library until 1 am to meet deadlines. Now, everything I have to get done has to fit into my 7.5 hour workday. I thought it would be like doing homework for 7.5 hours a day, but it hasn’t been. I’ve had to become more efficient with my time, more deliberate with my prioritisation of tasks, and had to make more choices around my schedule. There aren’t class syllabi to base my schedule on anymore. Thankfully, I’ve had support as I’ve figured this out (still in progress).

Now this is my own fault, but my entrance to the working world also happened around the same time I moved by myself to a new country. New job, new friends, new brands at the grocery store, new words (craic). But a year and a half in, I feel more at home!

How would you describe the culture at CG Business consulting, and how do you think it will contribute to your professional development?

As a graduate, I am very fortunate to work at a place like CGBC. Everyone is very supportive and willing to answer questions. The management are not just interested but they are invested in my professional growth. They have given me so many opportunities to learn. As a consultant, I get to work on a wide variety of projects in energy, environmental, and greenhouse gas management, which is great experience to have under my belt. They have also provided me with different trainings to add to my learnings. The opportunities I’ve had here, with real responsibilities and important work, even in my first year and a half, are invaluable. The work I’ve done has been important and meaningful, not like the grunt work and menial tasks I had expected from a first job.

Not only am I as a graduate growing, but the business is, too. It’s exciting to be a part of that environment, where I’m not catching up, but we’re all growing together.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned since you joined the work force?

Working also means learning! Everyone, graduates, and senior leadership alike, are always learning and upskilling. The CGBC environment makes it easy to ask questions, and the leadership are invested in upskilling the whole team. Learning doesn’t stop when you leave school!

Tell us something that others might not know about you.

I love music! I sang in a choir from when I was 7 years old until I graduated from college. I also play the ukulele.

Clodagh Roche

Junior Energy Consultant

Where did you grow up and what and where did you study in college?

I’m 23, from Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny and I studied Sustainable Energy Engineering in SETU Waterford.

What is your role at CG Business Consulting?

My role is junior Energy and Sustainability Consultant. My day-to-day currently consists of supporting our senior consultants on the delivery of ISO 50001 projects, Energy Audit reports and Carbon footprint projects.

What got you interested in Sustainability?

I always had interested in watching David Attenborough documentaries as a young child. I developed a strong passion for sustainability through the release of Blue Planet 2 in 2017. Witnessing the devastating affects to marine life caused by climate change and pollution, I knew that I must choose a career path in which I could help in some way.

Why did you choose to work for CG Business Consulting?

I chose to apply for CG Business Consulting through my college placement opportunity. Through researching the company, I knew that the Caroline and the team have a great interest in sustainability and that I would learn a lot from their experience and expertise.

What did you find most challenging about entering the working world?

I found it difficult to get aspects of the job correct at the beginning. I had briefly been introduced to some topic in my college lectures, but not in as much detail as needed to complete tasks in my role. The team at CGBC were very supportive and helpful in my training processes, as I developed new skills.

How would you describe the culture at CG Business consulting, and how do you think it will contribute to your professional development?

CGBC has a strong family base, which is carried throughout the company. Everyone at CGBC is supportive towards each other. Whenever I have a new challenge there is always someone there with words of wisdom and a solution.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned since you joined the work force?

The most valuable thing that I have learnt since joining the work force is the importance of teamwork, this means for a smooth project process. This has also allowed me to learn so much from all my colleagues.

Tell us something that others might not know about you.

I enjoyed art as a subject in secondary school and now as a pastime. I love to spend my spare time painting and drawing.

Tara Farrell

Junior ISO & Sustainability Consultant

Where did you grow up and what and where did you study in college?

I’m 22, from Enfield, Co. Meath and I studied Business & Management in Maynooth University.

What is your role at CG Business Consulting?

My role is junior ISO and Sustainability Consultant.  My day-to-day currently consists of shadowing our senior consultants for training purposes on project work, system reviews and audits. I also help with our operations and marketing.

What got you interested in Sustainability?

I developed an interest in sustainability from hearing so much about it growing up, through the news, school, and social media. Learning how we can take care of the environment and make better choices interests me. It’s cool to see that even small things we do can help the world. I want to be a part of making things better for everyone.

Why did you choose to work for CG Business Consulting?

I chose to apply for CG Business Consulting after being told about them by a client who they consulted for. They spoke so highly of Caroline and the team and how they work, and I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.

What did you find most challenging about entering the working world?

I found that balancing my work commitments and personal life was difficult at the beginning as I have a very long commute to the office, but the team have been supportive in ensuring that my calendar works for me, with carpooling and remote-working opportunities.

How would you describe the culture at CG Business consulting, and how do you think it will contribute to your professional development?

CGBC have a very supportive environment where we collaborate and celebrate successes together, with the same goals in mind. This will help a lot with my personal professional development as everyone wants to get each other to the best level of expertise to ensure the company’s success.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned since you joined the work force?

I have worked in part-time and summer jobs since I was 16, but never noticed the importance of Management who are passionate and driven by their work before working here. The positive atmosphere and motivation led by senior management clearly helps build the morale, innovation, and productivity of the team here.

Tell us something that others might not know about you.

I loved debating in school, especially regarding sustainability and went on to represent our school. During lockdown I started up a hand embroidery business on Instagram and sold tote bags and clothing. I’ve been vegetarian for 9 years.

We’re so excited to welcome new grads who are passionate about ISO and sustainability to CG Business Consulting. We know they will make a great addition to the team and we look forward to witnessing their growth, celebrating their achievements, and building a brighter future together.
