ISO Certification – FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions.
CG Business Consulting are experts and we work with our clients to ensure everybody understands the process.
Why should my company invest in ISO certification?+
ISO certification gives you a sustainable competitive advantage that can lead to significant increase in profitable sales and a growth in exports. If others in your industry have certification and you don’t – you could be missing out on business that they are getting.
An improved quality management system will reduce your costs and increase productivity. The improved systems will lead to better customer service which helps with customer retention and referrals.
The international standards and registrations will open your company up to a range of possibilities for doing business outside Ireland.
What is the difference between ISO and a Quality Management System?+
A quality management system (QMS) is a set of policies and processes. ISO 9001 is an example of an internationally recognised QMS. It is a way of standardising procedures to ensure best practice and basically it is just ‘good business sense’.
What is the difference between ISO Certification and ISO Accreditation?+
ISO certification is what the company receives on completion of the process. ISO Accreditation refers to the independent body that audits the company and issues the certificate.
Will I get a bespoke Quality Management System?+
Yes, it is important that the QMS is specially designed for you and around your business. If it reflects what you do and what you are trying to achieve then it becomes a way of working, rather than a piece of paper. Also, if it makes sense then all employees will buy into it and when procedures improve staff morale improves too.
How much will it cost?+
We work with clients from a wide range of industries and of different sizes so we will have a good grasp of how long the process will take from the very start. We will give you an accurate quotation before we start so there are no surprises later.
Our clients always tell us that the money spent on achieving ISO certification was one of the best investments they made for their business and it has paid for itself many times over with lower overhead costs and increased revenue. So the cost could be higher to your business if you don’t decide to implement ISO.
How long does it take and what will the process be like?+
We guarantee success on the first attempt (we do have a 100% track record after all!). The longest it will take is 12 weeks from start to finish.
70% of the work takes place on your site and the remainder of the time we work from our office writing up procedures. We will need time to interview and train staff, time to complete the paperwork (e.g. manuals, policies, forms, templates) and time to do the internal audit and a review meeting.

We work to different processes and with different documents, even in the same departments, will these be standardised?+
Yes, we will look at everything that is being used at the moment and work with the team to decide on which process is the best option. This ensures that there is only one way to do everything and everybody in the department is doing it the same way.
When we define the processes, do CGBC roll them out to the relevant departments, or do we do that ourselves?+
We offer training and depending on the size of the organisation and your requirements you can decide which option is best for you.
Do you offer a maintenance service after the creditation?+
Yes, after you achieve certification you may want us to come back the following year to check that all the processes are still in place and working well. We can quote you for this service.
Will you help us with an Audit Plan as part of the service?+
Yes, we will provide you with checklists and work with you through every stage. Don’t worry, we will work with you to produce manuals, process maps, quality plans, policy documents, safety statements, employee contracts and all the paperwork that is needed.
