Abrasive Wheel Training
What is Abrasive Wheel Training?
An abrasive is a wheel composed of an abrasive compound and used for various grinding (abrasive cutting) and abrasive machining operations. Such wheels are used for tools in a grinding machine or a consaw. The wheels are generally made from a composite material to form a solid, circular shape. The selection of the correct type of wheel for the application requires a competent and trained operative. Also the life span of the wheel depends on its usage and again this needs to be checked regularly by a trained and competent person.
Under Legislation Section 14 of The Safety, Health and Welfare at work (General Application)(Amendment) Regulations 2016 (S.I. No. 36 of 2016), the employer shall ensure that the employee is trained and instructed in the correct use of mounting an abrasive wheel including the correct selection of wheel for the application. Also the employee shall be able to inspect the abrasive wheel for any defect or general usage.
