What is Manual Handling?
Manual Handling is a physical activity that takes place in every workplace, and in some cases the activity does not pose a problem. However, it can be a potential workplace hazard when an employee is required to handle heavy loads which could result in an injury. Manual handling continues to be one of the primary causes of injury in the work place
A Manual Handling risk assessment must be carried out of existing tasks before making an informed decision on which tasks need to be avoided or reduced. Measures then must be put in place to reduce any risks. Training is one measure that can be taken to reduce risk of injury from Manual Handling activities. In house training is found to be the most effective in terms of results and costs.
