Ireland continues to appear on reports in Europe for having a higher than average rate for fatal accidents at work. According to data from Eurostat, the rate of workplace deaths in Ireland was 4 per 100,000 – significantly higher than the 2.5 average in the rest of Europe.
Last year 55 people were killed in work related accidents, 30 of which occurred on farms. There was a slight reduction in numbers killed in the construction, transport and storage sectors, however, even 1 death is too many.
